Our Passion for Standard Poodles

My parents and my sisters planted in my heart, my passion for LARGE Standard Poodles when I was a very little girl at the age of 3 years old.  We were living in Mexico City Mexico, and my parents brought 2 large Standard Poodle home, a black female "Mitsy" & and a brown male "Pe`Pe`". We moved back to the states to MN, my poodles, my parents, and my 2 oldest sisters.  I had an especially strong bond with my sweet "Pe`Pe`".  Tragically, when I was 5, Pe`Pe` followed me to the bus stop one morning and Pe`Pe` was hit and killed by a semi, I can still see the horror.

Over my life our family had many various dogs.  Later in my life, my husband and our 3 children also had several dogs.  Now 2 of our children are in Heaven and one of our sons is married and he and his wife have 3 beautiful children, and we get to see them often.

Ever since I lost my "Pe`Pe`" I never lost my passion in my heart for my Standard Poodles.  After more than 50 years, I had lost my parents and was in tears for days and one day that voice in my head said, "It is time, it is definitely time for me to get my POODLE!"  I had waited for almost my whole life!

I was Blessed with a brown female puppy, Mitsy the 2nd became another best friend and soul sister! I have a bond like no other.  I wanted to become a small breeder.  I love all Standard Poodles but my passion in my heart is especially for Larger Poodles.

Most Standard Poodles are 45-50 pounds and are common. The AKC has placed in this category for Standard Poodles weight of 40-50 lbs., and females for height over 15" at the shoulder but many are average between 22" & 27".  Larger Standard Poodle are rare.  The term for the larger poodles may be called "Royal" and are 60-80 pounds and some can be 100 pounds.

My "Mitsy" had a torsion or GDV (gastric dilation volvulus), or Bloat, or also called twisted gut.  We were so fortunate to catch it early and Mitsy survived. She is a very healthy girl.  This condition is not common but is a higher risk to large breeds with deeper chests or common in Standard Poodles, Great Danes, Doberman Pinscher, and Saint Bernard, and others.  Unfortunately, Mitsy was not meant to be bred for puppies after her torsion.

About 2 1/2 years ago, I was blessed with another Large Female, ad "Royal" Standard Poodle.  "Pearl" is white, and she weighs 75 pounds.  She is beautiful and is the biggest baby you have ever seen.  Pearl smiles and is wagging her tail ALL the time, she is ALWAYS happy.  Mitsy is a big baby also, but she is a litte more serious, she is a very smart thinker.  Both of my girls are different, but both have excellent temperaments.  My husband, Tom, and the girls live on our small acreage out in the beautiful Sandhills of North Central Nebraska with pine trees, cedar trees, and sandy canyons where we have lived for 25 years.
