One of the most important things I can tell you about your puppy/dog is please understand the mental development and behaviors. It is so important, and I have had so many puppies and dogs over my life, and I have misunderstood so many queues that my dogs are trying to tell me. I have enforced bad behaviors, and I have made some poor confused dogs. Life will be easier for you and your dog. This is one the best books and I have learned on development from birth to adult. "The Art of Raising a Puppy"

Feeding
2ndly, another top priority, is to feed a high-quality dog food. Your dog is given his/her their primary food, if not the only food they will have. If a dog is fed a poor-quality food, your dog will suffer the consequences. They need a healthy diet!
I will admit, I haven't done a lot of research, the dog food market is so highly competitive. Not the mention, the prices are through the roof. I was referred by an excellent breeder (I think she is the BEST) to a couple of high-quality foods, and my dogs do so well on it, I haven't changed for years.
I feed a mixed of 50/50 mix of Redpaw X-Series puppy & Bil-Jac puppy for 1st year. For adult 50/50 mix of Redpaw Edge 32K.
Consult your veterinarian. I feel a daily probiotic is a good thing, others feel it is only necessity when there is digestion upset. Dogzymes are an also good resource.

Grooming
I am learning to groom my 2 adults girls. I started 4 years ago. I am STILL an amateur. I really enjoy it and my girls are very patient with me. I learn something new every time. And sometimes I still learn things NOT to do! I was also refer to the "Muddy Creek" grooming training video and I couldn't have learned without it.
